Motorcycles

I've been riding motorcycles since I was 12 years old, that's 37 years now. I love the feeling of freedom it gives you. I think that same reason is why I have a student pilot license and love to fly. My wife thinks it is too dangerous though so I don't get to fly that often. I am still working on my license, but I did solo back in 1994.

My Dad first got me interested in riding when my cousin Wally gave my dad a lesson on his Triumph back in the late 60’s. Then Pop’s got himself a Harley a, ’68 FLH, black of course. That's an Electra Glide for those who don't speak the Harley alphabet.

I was a trail rider for the next 7 or 8 years until I got my license. Then started street riding, first with trail bikes. Then eventually I made a shift to riding street bikes.

I haven’t rode on the trails or in the woods for a long number of years. I think those early years were important for a number of reasons. First there were no formal lessons available like today. Second with all the loose sand and gravel you learn to control the bike with different traction conditions available. And learning to fall without the dreaded case of road rash, ouch!

Here's a short list of a number of Motorcycles I've owned.

  1. First the "Dirt Bikes"
    1. Hodaka 100cc Ace
    2. Montesa 250cc Montera
    3. Bultaco 250cc

    A few classics indeed!

I wish I had been able to keep just one or two of these favorites. This list is in no way complete. There have been a couple of bikes that I've owned that I won't admit to and would rather just forget. This list are my favorites.
