My Aunt Pudge's Memories of this photo follows:
LOCATION of photo: I am not sure about the location of this picture. There are only 3 locations I can think of. This photo may have been taken in Bradley Beach at Grandma Sculthorpe's house on McCabe Ave. or possibly in Newark, N. J. where my parents lived in 1941 - or maybe Grandma Martha's house in Jersey City, N. J. . It seems Aunt Pearl and and Grandma never lived in the city - always lived at the Shore - so this puzzles me. Mom and Dad lived in Newark when I was born. I was born in Newark Hospital.
YEAR: I believe Photo #0044 is the year 1941. I was born June 11th 1941. So this was taken just I was born. I think Mom was carrying me at this time or I would have been in the photo.

From left to right: The little boy on the left trying to hide behind Grandma Sculthorpe is your Father. He was about 9 years old here. He was so cute and looks like David for sure. I know your Dad probably always talked about this picture and remembered where this was taken, but I am puzzled about the location.
Then next to your Dad is our Grandma Ethel Sculthorpe, my Mother's Mom: I remember Grandma very well. She was with us since about 1945. My Dad was between jobs and we moved in with her where she lived in Bradley Beach. Grandma was a widow and had a house on the 600 block on McCabe Ave, Bradley Beach - about 300 feet from the firehouse located on Main St. - and the sirens drove us all nuts. She was a nice, easy going lady, who loved to iron shirts for doctor's and lawyer's and then would go to bingo and lose some of it. She did manage to let me have lunch money for school when I was about 13 years with her ironing money so I wouldn't go hungry. Grandma Sculthorpe died in January 1964 with pneumonia at Fitkin Hospital, Neptune. We lived at 1112 Main St. Asbury park at the time. I was working at Shore Beverage in Neptune when Mom called me and told me Grandma was taken to the hospital where she died shortly thereafter. Grandma was always good to me. I think of her often.
Next to Grandma is Mom who looks pregnant with me. I was born June 11th 1941. How I know this is probably 1941 is because the elusive lady on the right is my Father's Mother, my Grandma Martha Davies Holmes. I believe there is only about 2 or 3 pictures of her floating around somewhere in the family. She died when I was 6 mos. old ( she died Dec. 1941). So I feel I am correct with the information. I was born in Newark, N. J. so this photo was probably taken in Newark, or possible Jersey City, where Grandma Martha lived. Grandma Martha crocheted all my infant outfits as well as for your Dad, your Uncle Harry, and Aunt Midge. I always said your Aunt Diane looks like Grandma Martha Holmes and now you can see she does.
Next to Mom is Aunt Pearl, Mom's sister: Aunt Pearl is still alive but about 87 years old now. Aunt Pearl Wombough became a widow in mid 1960's and never remarried. Uncle Arnold passed away with cancer at a young age of maybe 52 or so. Uncle Arnold was in WW 2. I remember Uncle Arnold would always help us move from one house to another when I was little. Uncle Arnold had several brothers who always helped us. Aunt Pearl currently lives in Neptune - on Hamilton Ave. Aunt Pearl always was very close with our family and a wonderful lady. Aunt Pearl is the last living relative of our older generation. Aunt Pearl just mailed me patterns about 2 months ago to crochet some afghans and other items. They are very nice patterns and was very thoughtful for her to do this.
Then next to Aunt Pearl is my Father's Mother, Martha Davies Holmes: Grandma Martha lived in Jersey City, N. J. My Dad never knew his alcoholic Father. Martha buried him in Potter's Field long before I was born. She was from England. She loved to crochet. She had a boyfriend named Harry at the time she died of a heart attack in bed in Dec. 1941. Harry went to Florida after that and family lost track of him I guess.
